Vice-Regal. The Governor-General (Sir diaries Fergusson), accompanied by Lady Alice Fergusson, arrived in Invercargill on Saturday evening. Their Excellencies will remain there till Friday next, and during their stay will make a toui\i.of Southland, the object being to meet residents in towns and districts not previously visited. Sir Charles and Lady Fergusson, accompanied by Mrs Baird and Miss Dugdale, spent an hour or more at tho Otago Early Settlers’ Museum on Saturday morning. Sir Thomas Mackenzie went by oar to-day lor a visit to Te Anan and Manapouri. Tho Hon. G. M. Thomson left by the 11.31 train to-day, bound for Wbangarei. Air J. A, Young (Minister of Health) will arrive in Dunedin on Saturday next, and will stay at the Grand Hotel. Mr 3’. C. Coull travelled by train to Christchurch to-day, and goes on to Wellington. Mr F. Foster left by the through express to-day for Timaru. Mr A. F. Nice! went back to Christchurch to-day after a visit to Dunedin. Mr J. E. Ryan, attendance officer to tho Otago Education Board, returns to-morrow from his holiday at Rotorua. A cablegram from London states that Dr C. J. Reakes, Director-Gene-ral of tho New Zealand Agriculture Department, is leaving for South Africa, thence homeward, after inquiring into agricultural questions of interest to the dominion. Since the Agricultural Conference 'Dr Reakes lias visited most of the important research stations, and has given attention to the study of animal diseases, particularly with reference to dairy cows. Among the passengers by the Niagara from Sydney to-day was Mr Bavin, the New South Wales Premier, who was welcomed by Mr J. S. Dixon, M.P. Later lie was mot by Sir Maui Poraaro and Sir George Elliott, chairman of directors of the Bank of New Zealand. —Auckland Association telegram. New visitors to the Grand Hotel include Mr and Mrs E. M. Marr and Miss B. Marr (Sydney), Mr and Mrs L. J. Lewis (Adelaide), Mr F. H. O’Brien (Nelson), Mr C. W. White (Christchurch), Messrs T. Baird and J. Dick (Invercargill). Recent arrivals to tho Excelsior Hotel include Dr E. Jones, Mr W, S. Littlejohn, and Dr Jean Littlejohn (Melbourne), Miss Hall and Mr T. Spence (Wellington), Mr L. G. Gledhill, Mr and Mrs C. Smith, Miss Smith, and Miss Woods (Christchurch), Mr and Airs Mitchell (Wainiate), Messrs H. A. Fryer and J. C. Saul (Oamarn), and Miss Brook (Invercargill) .
