ST. CLAIR SWIMMING CARNIVAL
As a fitting prelude to the New Zealand swimming championships next week, the Sb. Clair Swimming Club’s carnival at the Municipal Paths tomorrow night should be a big attraction, for very satisfactory entries have been received for the fixture, one of the features of which will be the water polo match between Possibles and Probables, after which the Otago team to compete at the New Zealand championships will Ire selected. The six-a-side scratch relay race for the Olds Shield should provide a. great race between St. Clair, Dunedin, and Kiwi, the former being the holders. There is every likelihood of Miss Ena, Stonkley, New Zealand ladies’ 100yds champion, making an appearance at the meeting, and the Otago cracks, Miss K. Miller (New Zealand 220yds and 440yds ladies’ champion) and Miss M. Jenson, will also he seen in action. The 50yds. interclub dash should be an exciting event, and the 100yds men’s interchfl) handicap is another race of interest. The novices’ fancy diving should he full of thrills and fun, while tlio open plain dive should witness some good displays, the competitors including 11. C. Calder, New Zealand men’s diving champion. The novelty cork race will be an amusing item, and junior and novice races promise to make up a thoroughly enjoyable programme. >
