Mr Franklin, conductor, is recognised as one of New Zealand's foremost band trainers, and he lias been hard at work preparing the band for the forthcoming contest. The band’s rendering of sacred music and hymns is particularly good, and is listened to by hundreds each Sunday night. The band opens a series of Sunday night concerts at St. Clair tomorrow night. A collection will be taken up, and liberal support is requested to enable members to attend the championship band contest next month at Christchurch,
