SOUTHERN TOUR OF BOARD [Special to the ‘ Stak.’j WELLINGTON, January 13. Following a short meeting in Wellington on January 21, the Main Highways Board will make an extensive tour of the South Island roads. It will commence official business at Waimato on January 23, and during the day will visit Oamaru, Palmerston, and Wa ikouaiti, reaching Dunedin at night. Tuesday, 24th, will sco_ the hoard en route for Mosgiel, ‘Milton, Bnlcluthn, and Gore, while next day Winton, Otautau, Tuatapore, Orepuki, and Riverton will be visited, the board staying at Invercargill that night and setting out on the 26th for Tapanui, Lawrence, and Roxburgh. Friday, tho 29th, they proceed to Pembroke via Queenstown, Arrowtown, and the Crown Range. On Saturday, the 28th, tho route is from Pembroke to Mount Cook, which will he left on Sunday afternoon, the hoard staying at Fairlie, On Monday, tho 30th, the itinerary covers Timaru, Geraldine, Ashburton, am] Christchurch, which will he reached in the evening. The following day will be devoted to business with Canterbury local bodies. Mhen the board is in Dunedin it will have a general discussion with public bodies’ representatives on the distribution _of the petrol tax, and the reconstruction of important main highways near that citv.
