Shortly after 2 o’clock yesterday afternoon a seven-roomed dwelling and contents, at Tauranga, owned by Mr W. Nichols, were totally destroyed by fire. Mr and Mrs Nichols were in a store adjacent at the time, and the fire had a firm hold when it was discovered. The' only article saved was a sewing machine. The house is an old landmark, having stood almost on .the site of the historic Gate Pa battle.
