THE YEAR'S BUILDING
VALUATION TOTALS £604,134 •Although the financial year as far as the city building surveyor Mr G. W. 'Gough) is concerned ends in March, it is interesting to make a note of the permit values lor the year, 1927, and also to compare them with the corresponding mouths of 1926. The total value of the permits granted in 1927 amounts to £604,134, which is £116,626 short of the previous year’s values of £720,760. However, although the Town Hall estimate of £81,525 is included in March of last year, 1926 was more noteworthy for the launching of really big contracts. These include the Rubli'c Trust building, the Queen’s Building, work at the hospital, and the new premises of the, city’s two newspapers. The following table will give a direct comparison:—
