PAVENSBOURNE SCOUTS
The Paveiisbouruc Scouts wont into camp at Taieri Mouth from December 26 to January 7, under J. Williams, who was assisted bv Scooter J. P. Pickedll and Clobber E. Smith. The weather the first week was unsettled, but this was a good experience for the boys, as it enabled them to learn how to make themselves comfortable under unfavorable conditions. The discipline of the camp was good and the boys learnt the practical value of the work done during the year. The patrol competition was won by the Bulldog Patrol, under Acting-loader Facer. The cooking of the boys was excellent, shortbread and scones being made by several boys. Scouters Ashby and Kennedy visited the camp and stayed two nights. The camp was' also visited by Captain Hart and Dr Moore, who showed ns how to make a “ bangii (Maori oven). Under the supervision of Dr Moore a Maori meal was prepared. The menu consisted of mussels, pawas, fresh-water crayfish, thistles, cabbage tree, and potatoes. On .New Year’s Eve all assisted in the preparation of a bonfire. The scouts acknowledge an anonymous donation of £1 to the camp fund, and they specially thank Mr Pyster, on whose land they camped, and also Mr Patterson, who took them out and brought them back.
