HOME TEAM AGAIN SCORES WELL CENTURY TO BADCOCK. WELLINGTON, January 7. In a special match between Otago and Wellington Cherry (57) and Alloo fSO) resumed Otago’s first innings with four wickets down for 157 in reply to VVellington’s opening knock of 363. The weather was sultry. Otago were dismissed for 269. With a lead of 94 on the first innings Tattersall and Airey commenced Wellington’s second innings at eleven minutes past 12, Torrance and Alloo taking up the bowling. Play was painfully slow, three singles coming up in the eight overs sent down'before the luncheon adjournment. Upon resuming at 2.15 play continued slow to the accurate bowling of Alloo and Torrance. Off Alloo’s first six overs only one single came. There were nine maiden overs out of the first thirteen sent down. After scratching for forty minutes for 8 runs. Tattersall was snapped up behind the wickets by Galland off Torrance. 14—1—8. Lamason came next. Air 03' did not long survive Tattersall, as after being at the wickets for forty-seven minutes for 10 he, too, was taken by Galland behind the sticks off Torrance, who had now two wickets for 15 runs. 21—2—10. Badcock reached his century in 109 minutes. His brilliant innings was brought to a close through Alloo bowling and catching him. Brice came next, and smacked fourers off Dougins and Alloo. Mimes _oame on, and the Wellington captain lifted him over the long-on boundary for 6, and banged him against the pickets at longoff, quickly reaching the _ twenties. Dustin drove Knight to the side screen, bringing 230 up. Brice continued to swing the long hnndle ; hitting Knight to the long-off boundary, and bringing him to the fence at extra long-on, overhauling Dustin, who had had an hour’s start of him. Ho then lifted Torrance over the ropes at square leg for 6, flashed him past cover for 4, and hanged him to the boundary at extra long-on, 14 coming from the over. This gave Brice his half-century in twenty-eight minutes. After playing very patiently for 45 Dustin was bowled by Alloo. He helped Badcock to add 120 for the seventh wicket, and assisted Brice to pnt on 69 for the eighth wicket. 268-8—45.

Partnered by Massey Brice hit Douglas to the long-off boundary for 4. The score was taken to 270, which meant that Otago’s first innings’ total had been passed, and that the visitors would require over 360 runs to get to win. Massey made a spanking good on-drive for 4 off Alloo, and Brice lifted Douglas over the fence in front of the stand. The next ball, a full toss, the Wellington captain hit into the hands of a player at deep mid-on. Brice hit three sixers and seven fourers in rattling on his score of 69. _ 290—9—69. Beard, the last man, joined Massey, and' lifted Douglas over the fence in front of the stand for 6, a spectator making a neat catch. Massey then banged Alloo up against tho sight screen, and Beard lifted him to long-on for 4. Facing Dougins Massey on-drove him to the fence, and continued < to score freeely off Allom He was just as severe on Knight, who relieved Douglas. Beard got Alloo away to tho square leg boundary and pulled Knight in the same direction for 4. He then hit another sixer in front of the stand, bringing 350 up. Massey banged Alloo to the fence at long-off. Tho score was taken past tho Wellington first innings total of 363, with both men going well. Beard again banged Alloo up against the fence at long-off, and Massey treated Torrance in the same fashion, reaching his half-century. Beard raised applause by bitting his third sixer off Torrance, a lusty drive to long-on. There was more applause when the partnership had added 100 runs for the last wicket. There was a storm of applause when Beard reached his halfcentury hy hitting Elmos to long-off for 4 and lifting him on to the track at long-on for 6. . This brought the fourth hundred up.
