OFF TO SEA,

When Christopher Scanlon was before the court recently charged with being deemed an idle and disorderly person, in that he had insufficient lawful visible means of support, the case was adjourned to give the accused an opportunity of securing a position on a boat. When it was called this morning Senior-sergeant Quartermain said that the accused, who had previously pleaded guilty, had got away as a fireman, hut had left no allotment. He was on a coastal boat.

Scanlon was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if called within twelve months. BREAKING AND ENTERING ALLEGED.

John MTvean and Ivan William Walter Hanning were charged with that, on January 7, at Palmerston South, they broke and entered by night the shop of James Moodie with intent to commit a crime therein.

Detective Boer, who prosecuted, asked for a remand, and said that the accused had been arrested at Palmerston on Saturday.

'“Have yon any objection to a remand until January 20?” the Magistrate asked the accused, Al'Kenn replying that lie thought “it was a bit long.” The accused were remanded until January 16. FURTHER ADJOURNMENT. Jardine Spence was unable to appear to answer the charge of being an idle and disorderly person, in that she bad insufficient lawful visible means of support, Senior-sergeant Quartermain stating that she was still in the hospital. A further adjournment for a week was granted.
