PENSIONS IN BRITAIN
CONTRIBUTORY SCHEME IN OPERATION. (British Official News.) Press Association—By Wireless—Copyright RUGBY, January 5. The first payment of pensions under the contributory scheme to persons between sixty-five and seventy years of age who have been insured under the health insurance scheme arc being made to-day. It is estimated that the amount of additional money disbursed by bringing into operation this scheme will be £125,000 weekly. By means of health and unemployment insurance and contributory old age pensions working men and women are now protected by the State against the more serious misfortunes of life.
