* RUBDIGORE * On Monday there will commence in Dunedin the tour of the J. C. William* sou Comic Opera Company. The opening presentation will be ‘ Iluddigoro,’ that delightful burlesque on old-fash-ioned melodrama that is regarded by those most qualified to judge as one of the best of the Gilbert and Sullivan collaboration. ‘ Iluddigoro ’ has sparkling music, is interpreted by an exceptional cast, and is notable for its dressing. The second act is described as a masterpiece of stage presentation, being a brilliant ensemble of notable characters, who emerge from portraits. This entrancing opera, with its haunt* ing melodies, has a decided theme—not usual in modern comic opera—and demands that those interpreting it should bo actors and actresses as well as singers. The thraldom of tho Baron Murgatroyd is that ho is obliged, by heredity, to commit at least one crime per day; his ingenuity is severely taxed in his efforts to escape his obligations. Family ghosts descend from portraits to utter protest, with diverting results lor the whole Murgatroyd family. There are love scenes presented with that delicacy that is characteristic of Gilbert and Sullivan compositions. It will bo presented for two nights, and will bo followed by other selections from the company’s repertoire. Dunedin will be glad to welcome once again the following, favorites:—Strella Wilson, Patti Russell, Winifred Williamson, James Hay, John Ralston. Bernard Manning, and Charles Walenn. ■ An orchestra of talented players rounds ofT the performance. The box plan is open.
