The weather for tho final day was line, with a very cold south-west wind, which made it unpleasant for the very largo crowd present. Tho track was good, . tho heavy rain in tho early morning doing it no harm, hut again tho wind was all against any fast times being recorded. The totalisator investments for tho meeting as compared with last year wore:— —First Day.— ■ 1927. 1926. £72,776 £67,741) —Second Day.— £44,039 £40,234 —Third Day.— £66,370) £48,812 —Totals.— £183,185) £156,787) On the third day last year tho weather was wet. An inquiry into tho accident in the Hornby Handicap was held by the Judicial Committee, and it was found after hearing tho evidence of D. Withers (driver of Sahib), L. O. Thomas (Albert Logan), R. E. Mills (Kotnku Jack), and G. M‘Kendry fEpigram) that the accident was caused by the accidental cutting in of Albert Logan onto Sahib. Evidence was also taken as to whether tho state of the track at tho corner turning out of the straight where no fewer than three accidents occurred during the meeting was the cause of the accident, and from the evidence the committee formed the opinion that it was not. m « * * Despite tho rain overnight the track was in good order when the field went to the post for the Governor’s Handicap, and both Real tho Great and Count Dec were much better backed than Nelson MMvinuey, with Duke Bingen, The Toff, Wild Hebe, and Nourmahal (Great Aubudou—Lula Child, driven by E. O. M’Dermott) all evenly backed. Lady Fan led The Toff, Nelson MMvinuey, and Nourmahal over tho first six furlongs, Count Deo and Herbilwin breaking early. At the end of seven furlongs. The Toff took charge, but going to the far turn Nourmahal ran past Tho Toff, and led Nelson M'Kiuney into tho straight,

with Lady Fan and Tho 'Tod next. Nourmahal stayed on best, and won by two lengths from Nelson MMvinuey, who broke a few' strides from the post, but boat Lady Fan by a good length. Tho ToEF and Real tho Great next. Investments, £3,740. ■ * • . • ■" Tho Enfield Handicap saw nru-trained mare,, Final M‘Kinney (Young MMvinuey—Glade, ridden by J. M'Lomum) made a hot favorite, with Auguste Dillon and the bracketed pair, Dalmeny and Shine Soon, also w'ell backed, and Golden Devon, General Bingen, Bingen Lad next in order. General Bingen led the favorite, Bingen Lad, and High Jinks for the first half-mile. Then the two leaders drew right away, and General Bingen had a length advantage turning into the straight. J. M'Lennan rode a groat finish on Final M'Kinnoy, and just got up in tho last stride to beat General Bingen by a short head. Event, who broke at tho start, finished well five lengths further back, a neck in front of Bingen Lad. Dalmeny was fifth. Investments, £7,893). ’ ■«- « * Only Tom Thumb was withdrawn from the Christchurch Handicap, for which tho Auckland horse, Jewel Pointer (Logan Pointer—Law Chimes, driven by J. S. Shaw) was made a few pounds’ bettor favorite than Great Bingen, the pair being much better backed than Taiaro, Black Admiral, and Peter Bingen, who wore the next best fancied in a good betting race. Great Bingen left his mark at a gallop, losing over 2scc before ho struck his gait. Talent made the pace until six furlongs Irom Peter Bingen, Jewel Pointer, Great Hope, Escapade, and Taiaro. Great Hope took charge when coming down the running to begin tho last lap, with Black Admiral following, and Jewel Pointer was also on tho scone and threatening danger. Groat Hope led into the straight, but Jewel Pointer caught him in the last 100yds, and won by half a length. Great Bingen camo on with a good run on tho outside, and finished within three lengths of the leaders. Black Admiral was close up fourth, and then came -Escapade, Trenand, and Queen’s Own, who did not begin well at tho start. Investments, £9,463. * * * *

All started in the Australasian Handicap, and Coleno Pointer (Logan Pointer—Queen Cole, driven by I). Withers), v,ho non the Cup at Mothven last month, was sent out a good favorite, with Orphan and Amaris much better backed than Genuine and Binscarth. The last named led Coleue Pointer, Orphan, and Kotuku Jack. At the end of seven furlongs the favorite went |o the front, and led Orphan the rest of the way, and • him comfortably hy five lengths. Evelyn Locanda just beat Amaris for third money, the latter making up his handicap too quickly, and, not being able to stay on at the finish, Binscarth_ was dose up fifth. Investments, £8,3371.

All started in the Middleton Handicap, for which Cannonball (Wildwood Junior—Madame Shaw, driven by V, Alborn) was made a much better favorite than Young Blake and Money Spider, who were evenly backed, with Bonny Spec and Peter Swift the best supported of the others. Though starting 24yds behind the limit horses Cannonball hit the front after doing a couple of furlotv-s, and led Clonmel, Bonny Spec, and Lee Todd. At the end of haljSa mile Audominion collided with Master Ando, and the Termer’s driver was thrown out of his sulky. Excepting that Bonny Spec ran into second place after going a mile, there was no change in the leaders, and the I favorite was well clear from Highborn and Clo.nmel half a mile from home, 1 +he field being well sprendeagled. .Cannonball led into the straight from Highborn and t Clonmel, the latter skipping, and in the run to the post the favorite heat Highborn by half a length, with Clonmel three lengths off third. Leo Todd and Young Blako were next. Audominion continued, on in the race without his driver, and interfered ivith the chances of the hackmarkors, and then continued on for three rounds after the finish before ho •was stopped. His driver, D. Bennett. was not hurt. Investments, £8,872. * * * * In the Hornby Handicap Berenice was made a few pounds better favorite than Sahib, the pair being much better backed than Granite City and

Acre (Author Dillon —Young Irvington marc,'driven by B. Jarden). Ihe only other who was well backed was Avenger. The latter quickly headed the limit horses, aiid led Acre, Berenice*. Omaha, and Locanda General over the first half-mile. Turning into the last lap Albert Logan fell, and Sahib, Royal Oak, and Kotuku Jack went over him, and Nipper was pulled up. This was the third accident during the meeting at this turn. Avenger led Aero and Berenice along the hack and into the straight. In a, fine finishing effort Acre got up in the last few strides to beat Avenger by a short half-length. Berenice was two lengths off third, with Bob Logan, Omaha.- and Locanda General nest. Investments, £9,151. 1). Withers, driver of, Sahib, received a. nasty, shaking, the other drivers being unhurt. ,

Author Jinks (Author Billon —Lady Jinks, driven by T. Wallis) was sent out a good favorite for the Lyttelton Handicap, carrying considerably more than Bell Harold and the bracketed pair Pan Yan and Dr Dillon, who were evenly backed. Monember and Succession were next in demand. Lady Embrace led Pan Yan for half a mile, the leading division being Pan Yan, Lady Embrace, and Succession. Lady Embrace was with Pan Yau entering the last lap, with Succession and the favorite handy. Going to the far turn Pan Yan went to the- front and led Author Jinks into the straight. The latter took charge at the distance post, and beat Pan Yan, who stopped badly over the last bit, by a length. Succession was four lengths away third, followed by William the Great ( Dalmeny, who got interfered with six furlongs from home, and Lady Embrace. Investments. £8.221.

The field fur the final event of the meeting, the Sprinters’ Handicap, was reduced to 11 starters by the withdrawal of Wharopiana, Jewell Pointer, St. Almira, Taurckarcka, and Bell Harold, and in a splendid belting raco Bessie Logan was sent out a slightly better favorite than Harold Thorpe and Audacious, with Bonny Logan and tho bracketed pair Acron and Aliuriri also heavily supported. Logan Holm led out from Harold Thorpe, Audacious, Golden Devon, and Dillon Wilkes. Acrou and Talent losing their chance at the start. There iyas no change in the leaders until more than halfway, where Golden Devon put up a great challenge to Logan Holm, and just got up to bent him by a head.
