The first aspirant for President Goolidgo’s mantle was officially announced in connection with the candidacy for the Republican nomination for the Iresidcncy iu 1928* when a, letter from Senator Curtis was published to-day permitting friends to use his name- Ho added, however: “I will not consent to become a candidate if only for the purpose of being used as a so-called stalking horse for anyone else.” The general opinion among political observers is said to accord Senator Curtis little, if any chance for the nomination. It is not overlooked that he has a party standing as leader m the Senate and other attributes winch <rivo his cause strength. He has the advantage of an agreeable personality and picturesquoness, since he is partly Indian and is chief of the Kaw tribe. His secretary .to-day declared be was a partisan for President Cooluigo .mill recently.
