Charles M'Kiimon, aged Idly, a clerk in the employ of the Maugnnui County Council, on a charge of furnishing a false receipt, came,before Mr Justice lierdmaii for sentence. There had been other charges of theft and furnishing false receipts, hut these were not proceeded with. llis Lloiior said there was no doubt that accused had taken on his own shoulders the wrongdoing of another man. It also appeared that he was endeavoring to repay the money which had been stolon, and that he himself had not prospered as the result of the defalcations. Me was quite sure the man had not received any of the moneys which were, the subject of the charges.
