CHARGE OF WOUNDING FAILS
AFFRAY BETWEEN " BOSOM FRIENDS" UNSATISFACTORY EVIDENCE {Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 26. Herbert Alarshall Brooks, aged fortyseven, a private inquiry agent, was tried in tho Supreme Court to-day on a charge of wounding Alexander Percy Cutiibert Bentiy, with intent to do him grievous bodily harm. The case arose out of an affray that took place in a house in Wanganui avenue, Herne Bay on August 22, Bontly afterwards being in hospital for a week owing to injuries apparently caused with a bread knife. Bentiy, in evidence, said' it would be correct to say that accused and ho were bosom friends. He reprimanded accused, who had bene drinking. He took a bread knife out of accusers hand, as he thought accused might injure himself or witness with it .A scuffle then took place. Ho could not say who struck the first blow They got tangled up with the knife when they were on tho floor. Accused, in evidence, said he did not remember anything until the police came. The jury, alter a retirement of an hour and a-halt, returned a verdict of not guilty, adding a rider that the evident of Bontly had been most unsatisfactory.
