OPPOSITION FORCES
ISSSIIiESS HEN'S MOVEMENT
MEMBERS AWAIT RESULTS (Prom Oor Paruameniai;t Eefoeteb.] WELLINGTON, October 25. The next General Election is a long way off, but events political appear to be stirring, though not inside parliamentary circles. Following the recent conference of the organisation which is endeavoring to bring together all groups unfavorable to the present administration, comes the news that influential commercial men are independently moving to concentrate forces on the political situation, particularly with a view to bringing out candidates with proved administrative ability, and a definite policy of “ less Government in br-sincss.” Some public developments arc expected within a few weeks. Inquiries in parliamentary circles show that there is a tendency among Opposition members more or less interested in the movement which culminated in tho recent dominion conference to adopt a non-committal attitude of “ waiting to see.” it is admitted that the twenty or so Reform and Opposition members who were supposed to show practiced interest in the new movement, gave no countenance to tho conference, nor did tho twenty delegates (who included three former parliamentary candidates and one ox-member of the House) receive any further information regarding expected reinforcements from inside Parliament. However, there is sufficient indication of a growing Opposition influence which, if it can be focused under attractive leadership, will ultimately give serious anxiety to the Government parly.
