Tho withdrawals exceed the afluiatioas by 50 per cent., and tho wages are barely 70 per cent, of the pre-war level, averaging 64s monthly. A proposal requesting the Central Committee to demand increased wages was rejected as an attempt to curry favor with the masses. The delegates pointed out that mi eight-hour day does not exist in tho Russian ships owing to the absence of proper accommodation, also because most of the seamen prefer long hours to augment their totally inadequate wages.—A. ami N.Z. ami ‘Sun’ Cable.
