SENTENCED TO DEATH
SOVIET ESPIONAGE TRIAL ALLEGED BRITISH AGENTS. Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright MOSCOW, October 25. (Received October 26, at 1.30 a.m.) The Military Court sentenced Vladimir and Cyril Provo and Korepakoff to death and the others to two years’ imprisonment. [The five Russians accused of espionage were Cyril and Vladimir Prove, sons of a former Moscow millionaire: Korepakoff, counsellor to the- Soviet War Department; PodreskofF. and Nauoff. A statement dealing with the case, transmitted to the ‘Daily Express,’ affirmed that correspondence which fell into the hands of the secret police during a raid proved conclusively that espionage was being carried on. Edward Charnock, secretary to the British Mission in Moscow, was active in recruiting spies. It is declared that stolen secret [dans and other documents were transmitted to Charnock in return for American dollars and English clothing. Charnock, now in England, says that none of the accused is in any way associated with the mission.]
