Tho marquess was up and about on Sunday, but felt ill in the evening. The doctors were called in, and a dnoclinal ulcer was diagnosed during the following morning. The' Queen at this time was visiting a Sandringham school, and was utterly unaware of the possibility of a critical operation. The marquess was hurriedly motored to Salop Inlirnmry, but never rallied after the operation, and died late in the in the presence of tho marchioness. Earl Eltham, and Lord Frederick Cambridge, Jmt bis daughter, the Duchess of Beaufort, failed to arrive in time. The marquess’s last task was to raise £50,000 on behalf of the Shropshire hospitals, including the infirmary where ho died. COURT MOURNING ORDERED. LONDON, October 25. The public engagements ol the members of tho Royal Family, including the projected visit of the Prince of Wales to-morrow to Shrewsbury, where Hie Marquess of Cambridge lived, have been cancelled.
