FORTNIGHTLY MEETING ■J'iie fortnightly meeting was attended by the mayor (Mr T. Anderson), Crs Allan, Hell. Craigie, Willmolt, iScollay, Maekic, Campbell, Love, Smith, and Lunn. Letter referred to Water Committee Dr J. H. Crawshaw, medical ollieer of health, wrote saying that the attention of ins department had been directed to the tact that the council laid decided to lay a sewer at Wieklille terrace to pick up several sewers discharging into Mussel Hay. The Works Committee reported that during the past fortnight tiie foreman and sTafl have been engaged chiefly cm road work and footpath patching. The patching of the footpath in Daly street lias been completed, and Bernicia street and Mary street footways are now receiving attention. Magnetic street is receiving much-needed attention by way of metalling and building up the crown of the road. Twenty-six loads of rock and twenty-seven loads of metal were carted and spread on this .street. The water table on one side had to be lowered, and 2Ht ot cast iron pipe was laid under the crossing to carry away the storm water. The material taken from the shoulders has been used for blinding. Two loads of ashes were carted and spread on Meridian street, and the grass cleaned away from the channels at the south end of George street. The committee has viewed the damage occasioned to Shand’s wall through the bank washing away, and recommends that an amount of £7 be offered towards the cost of repairing the wall when the ditch authorised in the Reserves Committee’s last report has been dug. During the period under review all mud tanks been cleaned and channels swept.—Cr Smith, in moving the adoption of the report, detailed the position in regard to Shand’s wall and tho_ conditions prevailing in that locality.—The report was adopted. The Finance Committee reported that the fortnight’s receipts amounted to £461 4s 9d and the accounts for payment to £468 8s lOd. The gasworks account showed receipts of £B3 13s od and expenditure £37 18s Id.—The report was adopted. The Mayor moved that the council protest against the decision _of the Marine Department to discontinue the publication of shipping movements at the post office. —The resolution was carried unanimously. It was decided to hold the meetings at 8 p.m. instead of 7.30 p.m. during the summer months.
