(Received July 25, at 10.30 a.m.) A Toronto message states that Canadian farmers’ taxes have been lessoned considerably through thirsty American tourists crossing tho border to procure beer, wires, and other liquor. Jt is announced that the Ontario Provincial Legislature will have a balanced Budget for the lirst time in the last twenty years, with a prospect oi tax reductions amounting to 2,000,000 dollars. The province of Ontario, when under Prohibition, appeared to be saturated with illicit liquor from bootleggers and “ blind pigs.” The rate oi arrests in “dry” Ontario was formerly higher than that in tho neighboring “wot" Quebec. Now, with tho pro vince “ wet,” the legal sales are expected to run to about 30,000,000 dollars, compared with an estimated 35,000,000 under the former illicit bootlegging.
