PET DONKEY’S FEET

HOOFS LIKE A CORKSCREW. What is the life of a donkey? This question was raised iu a case heard at Weymouth Police Court lately, in which a donkey with corkscrew feet figured. It was stated to bo thirty years of age. The owner, an aged widow named Emma Parker, and her brother, James Thorne, living in the village of Preston, near Weymouth, were summoned by me Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals for causing the animal unnecessary suffering. The magistrates were shown photographs showing that the front hoofs had growu round the legs in circular fashion, while the hind hoofs were, 12in long and corkscrew shaped. An inspector said the animal could not keep its balance, and had to be hold up. The widow cried with gratitude when the bench told her the donkey would be spared if it were looked after properly.
