RATEPAYERS’ ASSOCIATION
FBBLYH AND KAIKORAI The monthly, executive _ meeting of the Roslyu and Kaikorai ratepayers was held on Thursday evening. -Mr 1 • L. Ritchie presided. Correspondence was read Irom tne town cleric intimating receipt of certain requests from the ussociaion, and that these would be given attention. Mr Anderson, of Litliebournc, wrote stating that a 6ft fence adjoinmg-tjie Littlebouruo tram shed was some bit on the road line, and, as this corner was narrow and the turn sharp, tins fence was dangerous to motor traffic. He asked that representations bo made to the council to have it removed without delay, and have a handrail erected instead. —Noted. , , . The tar-sealing on the R-oslyn business area and the surface draining on the lower side of Walton street was again brought forward, and the secretary was instructed to advise the council that these works were urgent. A deputation was received Irom the-newly-formed Kaikorai Tennis Club asking the association to support its application to the council for that portion of' ground opposite the train terminus and adjoining the children s playing area, to bo used for making two playing courts. There were already over thirty members 1 nominated, and they wished, to secure this vacant ground.—The Chairman assured the deputation that the ground in question was originally intended for tennis courts by the council, and now tlia* the club was in existence the support of the association to its application could be relied upon. The children’s playing area required a certain amount of filling in and topdressing, and this was also sent forward. for consideration. Preparations were, being made tor the annual meeting of ratepayers, which is to be held, next month. A sub-cornmitteo reported having inspected with the manager the working of the new danger light installed by the Kaikorai Tram Company in Highgate. When the up cars were within sUyas of the summit a large red revolving light was immediately set in motion, and simultaneously a loud-sounding bell was heard, warning all traffic ot the car’s approach. This light was visible in daylight for 100yds, and at night time for 200yds. The association is anxious to see tne City Council install a similar signal on the Highgate crossing at Ross street.
