AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE

THE HOWARD BEQUEST [Pur United Pusss Assoclmiox.] WELLINGTON, July 21. As a result of a meeting last week at Hastings Sir B. H. Williams waited as a deputation ou tho Prime Minister and the Minister of Agriculture (Mr O. J. Hawken) to-day, supported by local members of Parliament, asking lor the recognition of Hawke’s Bay s claims in respect to the. establishment of an agricultural college and lor legislation providing for the setting up of an advisory board to assist the Government m carrying out the Howard trust. Mr Williams stressed the fact that feeling was very high that Hawke .s Bay should receive proper consideration, as it was clear that the testator intended that tho college should be established on his own property. If the estate continued to ho worked as a training farm for boys and a, portion of the funds was diverted ior the use of the Palmerston people he thought the agitation would end. Air Hawken said that the setting up of a board would simplify matters. Mr Coates agreed. He asked Mr Hawken to prepare legislation, and promised to indicate in due course if a. Bill would be introduced.
