HEW ZEALAND UNION BARCLAY’S ELIGIBILITY. A fully-attended meeting of the Management Committee of the New Zealand Rugby Union was held at Wellington last night. Tho following letter was received from the Wairarapa Union:—“ln tho recent shield match played at Masterton between Wairarapa and Hawke’s Bay my union directs mo to draw your attention to the inclusion of W. Barclay in the Bay team. From a reliable quarter it was, ascertained that Barclay did not leave Auckland until June 20, and was therefore not eligible to play for the Bay team, under rule 43 of tho New Zealand Rugby Union’s rules _ governing the selection of representative teams. Prior to the game on July 9 Wairarapa questioned the bona fides of Barclay. Hawke’s Bay proved that he had been a resident for fourteen days, as provided by local unions for club contests. Hawke’s Bay have clearly broken the rule, and we ask the New Zealand Union to take action.” A • lengthy discussion ensued, ami eventually it was decided to request the Auckland Union to furnish evidence as to what qualification (if any) Barclay possessed to play for Auckland this season, and also as to the date on which he left Auckland. It was also decided to ask the Hawke’s Bay Union' for the date of Barclay’s arrival in its district. Both unions were asked to furnish tho information by noon on Saturday next in time for a. special, meeting of the New Zealand Union to deal with the Wairarapa protest. It was agreed that all challenges for the Raufurly Shield _ should be suspended in the meantime. An Otago complaint that representative matches are played too early in the season, thus interfering with chib matches, is to bo referred to the delegates at the annual meeting. M'Kenzio, made a report. A resolution was carried to permit country teams to go into camp for training not more than two clear days prior to important matches.

O M'KEHZIE'S RESIGNATION the ordering-off incident. A meeting of the Wairarapa Rugby Referees’ Association was held at Carterton last night to consider the resignation of Mr H. J. M'Kenzie from tho secretaryship and the Appointment Board of the association. Mr M'Kenzie stated that his action was due to the attitude of tho Wairarapa Union in dismissing the case against Q Donald, who was ordered off tho field with Maurice Brownlie in the match against Hawke’s Bay. Mr M'Kenzie stated flint he had warned Donald before ordering him off for punching in the scrum and for fouling a player in a lincout.
