OTAGO RADIO ASSOCIATION

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Otago Radio Association was held in Stcdman’s Garage last evening. The president (Dir J. T. Cooper) was in the chair. In moving the adoption of the annual report and balance-sheet the chairman said that the year had not been a particularly good one. The only important work done was the connecting of the line from the studio to Dir Stedman’s house, from which concerts were broadcast. They had proved that they were quite capable of transmitting by land line. The advantage of this lino was such that a greater variety of items _ could be given from the house than in the studio. The balance-sheet showed that the association was in a sound financial position, there being £ls in hand. The annual report and balancesheet were adopted. The following office-bearers were elected:—Patrons, Messrs R. C.'Jones and S. R. Stedman; president, Dir J. T. Cooper; vice-presidents, Dlessrs J. Passmore and T. Stejlman; secretary, Dir D. G. Dlitchell; auditor, Dir H. 15. Barth; committee—Dlessrs R. V. Collier, J. Roberts, A. G. DPCarthy, L. Bates, R. Bruce, F. H. Jones, A. Smith, and L. Penfold; operator, Dir D. G. Mitchell: Dir T. Stedman moved that the secretary bo instructed to write to tile Dlinister advising him that now the wave-lengths of the New Zealand stations had been altered, it was almost impossible to tune in the Australians, and asking him to make every effort to havo the matter rectified. The motion was carried. One new member was elected.

A sub-committee, consisting of Dlessrs Cooper, Passmore, and Dlitchell, was set up to approach the New Zealand Broadcasting Company with a view" to having the programmes transmitted by the company’s stations improved, and asking that a new station be erected in Dunedin.

It was decided that an attempt be made to have the annual license fee for crystal set owners reduced. Dir Dlitchell made the suggestion that a number of instructive items bo put on the air by the association periodically.
