- The Prime Minister' (Right Hon. J« G. Coates), Mrs Coates, the Minister of Public Works (Mr K. S. Williams), and Mrs Williams left by the first express this morning for Timaru. Thero the Ministers will meet the farmers in regard to the wheat position, and proceed to Christchurch by the second express. On_ Wednesday evening they will leave for Wellington, The Minister of Education (Hon. R. A. Wright), Mrs Wright, and the Minister's private secretary (Mr W. 1. Deavoll) left for Invercargill by the first express tiiis morning to inspect a number _of educational institutions thero and in the country districts. The Minister expects to return to Dunedin on Friday. Sir Thomas Mackenzie went to Timaru to-day. He proposes to return in time to attend the Balclutha jubilee next week, and it is quite fixed that ho will remain in New Zealand for the next session of Parliament. Sir Alex. Roberts left to-day for Wellington. Messrs W. E. Reynolds and W. Bryant left this morning for Wellington to attend a meeting of the Dairy Control Board to-morrow. Dir Parker DPKinlny left to-day for Wellington. Guests at the Excelsior Hotel include Mi - and Mrs Cranston (Auckland), Messrs R. Wheeler, F. Elian, and H, L. Babiugion (Christ church), Mr James A. Collcmvood (Invercargill). The Port Chalmers Council last night carried a motion of condolence with the mayor in respect to the recent death of his mother, Dlrs D. Anderson.

Mr Ernest Wilson, direct factory representative of Josep.' Rodgers and sons,. Ltd., Sheffield, England, and Spear and Jackson, Ltd., Sheffield, arrived in Dunedin yesterday and will be located lici for several days i n business.

Mr R. U. Hammond, director of town planning, wbo is on a visit to Dunedin, was entertained at luncheon by members of the University Club yesterday. There was a largo attendance, and Mr Hammond delivered an interesting address. At a meeting of the Southland Rugby Union at Invercargill last night i.tr J. Richardson, the well-known All Black forward, was appointed secretary. This means that Mr Richardson’s playing days are ended, ft will be remembered that ho captained the All Blacks in the three interimonal matches during the 1924 team’s i-imous tour of Great Britain.

Mr Baildon, the Mayor of Auckland, has definitely announced that he will contest the mayoralty against allcomers at the forthcoming election,— Press Association.
