GARDEN FETE AT MACANDREWS

Lovely weather as experienced for the garden fete in Mr Barling’s grounds on Saturday afternoon; consequently there was a nice gathering present. The outing, which had been postponed from Anniversary Day owing to tho wet weather experienced, was organised ; by the Colindell Queen Committee, and I proved an enjoyable affair. Various ' stalls and sideshows were on the grounds, and they appeared to bo doing good business, while the afternoon tea ; room was well patronised. A feature | of the afternoon’s programme was the I baby show, which attracted over a dozen fine young baby boys and girls, the judges being Mcsdames Bowers and King. The Third Artillery Band, under the couductorship of Bandmaster Kellett, was present, and discoursed a very fine programme of musical numbers, thus adding greatly to the afternoon's I enjoyment. A number of races were I got 'off, with the following results: — 1 Girls under eight years: M. Andrews 1, H. Percy 2. Boys under eight years: H. Stott 1, D. Andrews 2. Girls under twelve years: P Scott 1, I. Hook 2. Boys under twelve years: H. Childs 1, M. Stott 2. Young ladies’ race; Miss D. Boyles 1, Miss E. Johnston 2. Young men’s race; D. Coutts 1, M. Grainger 2. Married men’s race: J. Gallon 1, I. Sken© 2. The following is the result of the baby show:—Six months and under: Girls—Mrs Mitchell 1, boys—Mrs White 1, Mrs Steadman 2. Twelve months and under: Girls—Mrs Coard 1, boys—Mrs Douglas 1, Mrs Dick 2. Eighteen months and under: Boys—Mi's A. E. Hellyer I, Mrs A. Lambeth 2. The tea rooms were attended to by Mesdames Brown, Bowers, Garbett. Hinkley, Howie, Ross, Steadman, Misses Bowers, Henderson, and Hinkley; ice cream and sweets stall, Mrs Henderson and Misses M. Brown and J. Rowlands; fancy stall, Miss D. Brown; produce, fruit, etc., Mrs E. A. Hellyer; bran tubs and dips, R. Kennedy; fortune-telling, Mesdames Lambeth and Fountain; ‘‘chocolate alley,” Messrs F. Lambeth and J, Brown. Members of the committee all worked hard to- make the function the success it was, financially and otherwise.
