ADVERTISING THE OPINION
HOT KNOWN IN THE EAST “My impressions of New' Zealand? Well, i have been in tiie dominion only a short while, but i think it is a very happy, healthy country,” said Major Knox, when he was asked by a ‘Star’ reporter this morning for his impressions on the dominion. Major Knox has travelled in many countries, and for many years he lived in the Federated Malay States. He w r as charmed with New Zealand’s scenery and the healthy-looking peopje to bo met with everywhere, finding the conditions akin to those that had built up Great Britain. New Zealanders are to be found all over the world, he said, but though they are happy to travel they are happier still to be able to return to Now Zealand, whidh is surely sufficient recommendation. “The only trouble about New Zealand is that you do not tell the world enough about yourselves.” said Major Knox. He referred to the rubber and tea planters and ex-Indian Army men who, finding the climate no longer bearable in the East, usually retired about middle age and sought about for somewhere to settle where good educational facilities for their children would be available.
Hundreds of them want to know where they can live and educate their families on a thousand a year, and Major Knox believes that New Zealand is just the place. By propaganda in India, Malay, and Ceylon, pointing out the advantages of living in New' Zealand, with its educational facilities and unrivalled opportunities for sport, a fine type of immigrant would bo attracted to the country. Hundreds of people in the East, too, went to Sydney for their leave, hut, /not knowing of New Zealand’s attractions, they went no further.
