WEST HARBOR COUNCIL

FIRST MEETING OF YEAR The. first meeting of the West Harbor Borough Council was held last evening, and was attended by the mayor (Mr H. E. Moller), Crs A. Smith, J. T.‘ Downes, J. W. H. Clarke, G. W. Macdonald, T. Harridge, C. M. French, J. Robb, and J. M. Kay. The Water Committee reported that a service had been laid on to the township of Main. The service had also been connected with most of the houses, and the residents now felt more satisfied. The council had been petitioned on several occasions for a water service, and it was intimated that councillors were just as pleased as the residents now the installation had been completed. The borough inspector’s report on the work carried out during the past month was approved. The Finance Committee reported that the receipts for the month of December amounted to £2,262 Is 4d. Accounts 'amounting to £423 17s 9d had been passed for payment, leaving a credit balance of £1,505 Is 7d.—The report was approved. The District Traffic Manager for the Railways Department wrote stating that, as the express from the north arrived at Dunedin at 4.25 p.m., it had been found necessary to alter the time of the departure of the usual 4.21 p.m. from Dunedin to Port Chalmers to 4.28 p.m.—A deputation was appointed to meet the traffic manager. A letter was received from the Town Clerk of Stratford in regard to the proposal to form a Town Clerks’ Association. He suggested that a meeting of town clerks be heldin February for the purpose of discussing the matter.—Approved. ,k letter from the Department ot Internal Affairs in regard to the latest information on town-planning was received. A. letter was received from the town clerk of Dunedin stating that the council’s proportion of the cost of entertaining the Duke and Duchess of York would be £3o.—lt was decided to grant the amount. H. D. Lamb wrote asking for a rebate on his rates. He contended that, ns his property had not been occupied for a period of six months, he was entitled to a rebate.—The request was refused.
