According to statistics just published, Paris is by far the most crowded great city in the world. It is stated that New York has a density of 6,266 inhabitants to the square kilometre, London 14,798, Berlin 27,397, and Pans 37,191. Certainly, one is surprised at these figures, for one would have thought that the American skyscrapers would have meant considerable density. But Paris, though not possessing such high buildings as New York, is almost completely given up to the fiat system, and most of the bouses have sis or esven stories*
