THE MOST HONEST MEN
America has discovered that Englishmen, . Frenchmen, and Germans are the .most honest people in the world, more-honest,'in fact, than Americans. The discovery has been made by a leadibg firm of American jewellers. They have 3,000 instalment accounts, and have been investigating the nationality of ■ the clients who pay with reluctance. They have found that only 19 per cent, of their English, French, and German debtors need to be prodded into payment, while 20.1 per cent.'of their American customers require extra pressure. Russians are the most dishonest. Forty-six out of every hundred . Russian customers do not pay up without extra collection efforts. The following table shows the percentage for each nationality of those who paid under pressure:—English and Canadian, 19; French and German, 19; Scots, 20; American, 20.1; Poles, 20.1; Irish, 23.1; Scandinavians. 25; Hebrews, 27.6; Turks, 34.1; Greeks, 38.2; Italians, 38.7; llussiaus, 46. Scotsmen, it will be noticed are not so ready to pay “on the nail” as Englishmen.
