HIGH SCHOOL BADLY BEATEN CHRIST'S COLLEGE WIN BY 10 WICKETS The annual match between Otago Boys’ High School and Christ’s College was brought to a conclusion at Carisbrook this morning, when the visitors won by ten wickets. The local side made a much better showing in their second batting effort, but a woeful lack of enterprise was shown by most of the batsmen, Penrose being an exception. The winners better in every department of the game. Yesterday College made 202, School replying with 61 and 6S for four wickets, Smith (7) and Moloney (10) being the not out men. Murray and Johnstone opened the bowling, and both batsmen showed more confidence than in tho first innings. At 82 Moloney, who had been displaying some attractive strokes, tried to pull a straight ball from Johnstone and was out low. Drew, the newcomer* banged Murray to the fence, but, with the addition of a single, he was caught at square leg by Roberts, the fieldsman just reaching the ball with one hand. Six wickets were now down for 90. Bean replaced Murray, and Lusk, who was not given a bowl yesterday, came on at the other end. The former sent down three consecutive maidens, Penrose breaking the monotony by driving him to the fence. The century appeared after 110 minutes. Ho earned a lusty icheer from the School supporters in the stand by driving Lusk through the covers to the fence. The next ball he'clipped to third man, who just failed to connect. Dunster, the visitors’ captain, then came on in place of Bean, Penrose snicking him through the slips for a quartet. _ An off-drive by Penrose saw 120 hoisted. Bean was then substituted for Lusk, the new bowler sending down a maiden. At 127 Penrose hit one to Dunster at mid-off, the College player juggling unsuccessfully with the ball. Johnstone came back to tho bowling crease, his third ball proving fatal to Penrose, who had batted freely for 27. School then required fifteen in order to avoid an innings defeat. Groves, the newcomer, opened with a glide to fine leg for 2. The field was drawn in close for both batsmen, Smith hitting one through silly point’s hands. Groves made a couple, when tie returned a difficult one to tho bowler, who brought off a fine one-handed catch. Smith, who had been at the wickets for about two hours, hit his first 4 off Johnstone. Blytli was very uncomfortable in facing Bean, and was eventually caught by Roberts, who was standing about a yard from the batsman. Begsley, who had seven of the field encircling him, opened with a single. The same batsman collected a 2 and a 1 off Bean, and drove Johnstone to boundary, but two balls later he clipped one from the same bowler to Bean. Tho innings closed at noon for 143, tho visitors requiring 8 runs to win. Dunster and Johnstone opened the visitors’ second innings, tho former hitting Smith for a single. A single to tlie same batsman off Jolly and a brace to Johnstone left College the winners by ten wickets. The batsmen continued at tho wickets until 12.30, both batting freely. Scores: —
