A CRICKET INCIDENT
CAPTAIH AND TEAM WALK OFF [Per United Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, December 14. The action of a cricket captain in taking his team off the field because he. objected to an opposing player filling a vacancy in a match on Saturday has provoked a good deal of unfavorable comment in cricketing circles here. The teams concerned .were Riccarton B and Old Boys B, in the senior B competitions On tire first day of the match one of Old Boys’ men fielded, but did not bat because lie would not be present on the second day. He was therefore leaving a place for another batsman in their second innings. Old Boys did very well, and with ten minutes to go required 25 nuts to win. Nine wickets had fallen, ami the oniergency player was sent in. The iticcarton captain thereupon took his team off the field and left the two batsmen at the wickets.
