Mr Allen Uuward, the well-known novelist, was found shot through the heart at his rooms in Wimborne, Dorset. ’ There is grim irony underlying the tragedy of a man of brilliant gifts, who, after years of failure, published the sensational novel ‘ The Domino Club,’ dealing with pyscho-analysis, which was an immediate success and one of the best sellers in America. Unfortunately Mr Upward decided that his efforts to “ get back ” were useless. He refused to believe the evidence to the contrary, and died believing that he was a literary failure. [Mr Upward was born at Worcester in 1863. He was educated at the Great Yarmouth Grammar School and at the Royal University of Ireland. He had a distinguished university career. He was called to the bar, and practised on the South Wales circuit. He stood for Parliament, but was not elected. Next he fought as a volunteer in the Greoo-Turkisb War. Following this, he was appointed _ British Resident in Northern Nigeria, and Later went on a mission to Macedonia.
