RECORD CROWD FOR PEOPLE'S DAY [Bbr United Press Association.) AUCKLAND, November 17. People’s Day at the Royal Show today proved wonderfully successful, the fine weather attracting a great crowd, estimated at 40,000. The gate takings were £1,989 14s, making £2,136 for the two days. The Governor-General and Lady Alice Fergusson attended and presented the Royal Show championship ribands. The crowd displayed great interest in inspecting the fine live stock exhibition and witnessing the riding and jumping competitions. A party of naval cadets from H.M.S. Philomel gave a display of gun drill, and twelve teams' of girls from the Interhouse Girls’ Athletic Association gave a good exhibition of gymnastics. Further awards:— SHEEP. Moore Hunter Estate’s (Hawera) Royal Champion. COMPETITIONS. Th§ open hunters’ competition was won by Sel Arish, owned by A. M. Samuel, M.P. (Cambridge). - The Scott Memorial Cup for the champion lady’s hunter was won by O. Nelson’s (Hastings) Blue Moon, which also won the wire-jumping contest, P. Gorrie (Rcmuera) was adjudged the best girl rider under 15, and G. Peake the best boy rider under 15 and also under 17. The trotting and pacing exhibitions provided good contests, some excellent track performers being engaged. Both events were over two miles, and the finishes were extremely close.
