Nevertheless, some good running was witnessed, and there were one or two spirited finishes. The much improved W. 0. Hermann accounted lor the 300yds handicap from the Hyd mark, winning fairly comfortably, though ho certainly got a flying start. J. E. Green scored his second successive win by accounting for tho 75yds handicap from a /yd mark. A promising young runner in J. A. Sparrow (55yds) won the I, handicap in 2rain 25 l-ssec. There was no delay between the events, the secretarial arrangements being carried out by Mr B. R. M'Kernan. Mr A. Burk was the starter, the judges being Messrs E. L. Macassey, R. Thompson, and J. Beatson. Mr Beatson also did tho handicapping, and produced several good finishes. The results were as follow: — One and a-half Mile Cycle Handicap.—C. C. Nicholson (160yds) 1, I. H. M'Millan (150yds) 2 R. J. Templeton (155yds) 3. Eight starters. Nicholson rode a good race, and won by several lengths, there being length between second and third. Green (/yds) 2. Six starters. Olsen caught Green with 10yds to go, and won easing up by about a yard. Time, Bsec. Final: J. E. Green (7yds) 1, C. M. Olsen (scr) and L. E. Macassey (44yds) dead heat 2. Also started: W. O. Hermann (6yds). Olsen got away well, and at the 50yd mark he appeared to have the race in band. Green, however, came again, and won in a strong finish, the judges being unable to separate Macassey and Olsen for second place. Time, 8 l-ssec. 100 Yards Ladies’ Handicap.—Miss N. Bezar (2)yds) 1, Miss R. Kitto (7yds) 2. Six starters. A close finish. Time, 13sec. Second heat: Miss D. Moir (3yds) 1, Miss W. Dorward (ovds) 2. Won by a yard. Time, 12 4i-ssec. Final: Miss W. Dorward (oyds) 1, Miss D. Moir (3yds) 2, Miss N. Bezar (24yds) 3i Also started: Miss R. Kitto (7yds). A keen race and exciting finish, a yard separating the three placed competitors. Time, 12 2-ssec. 300 Yards Handicap.—W, O. Hermann (11yds) 1, G. P. Cook (20yds) 2, J. E, Green (18yds) 3. Ten starters. Hermann got a flying start, and rounding the straight turn he was in a good position, going on to win easing up by 3yds. A good finish for second place. Tirae,_ 33 2-ssec. 1,000 Yards Handicap.—J. A. Sparrow (55yds) 1, J. J. Morris (55yds) 2, G. S. Cabot (25yds) 3. Fifteen starters. With half the distance covered, Stevens led Watson, Sparrow, Cabot, and Morris, but in the Inst lap Cabot moved to tho front, and stayed there until the straight was reached. Sparrow challenged him, and lasted long enough to win by 4ft from Morris, who put in a late run and beat Cabot for second place by a yard. Time, 2min 25 l-ssec.
