The Dominion Meteorologist (Mr D. C. Bates) supplied the following at 9 a.m. to-day:—

Bares) supplied the following at noon to-day:—Tho indications are tor southerly winds, strong to a gale at times, and veering by west to north; expect changeable, and showery weather; barometer has a rising tendency, but falling after thirty-six hours; tides good; sea considerable. ARRlVED.—November Id, Strathlorne, s.s. (4.30 p.m.), 2,803 tons, D. Macphee, from Nauru Island via Auckland and Lyttelton. ARRlVED.—November 17. Oreti, s.s. (2.30 a.m.), 174 tons, M'Kenzic, from Port Craig. Holmdale, s.s. (6.15 a.m.), 681 tons, Williams, from Wellington. City of Canton, s.s. (9.55 a.m.), 6,982 torn, H. G. Jenkins, from New York via Newport News, Panama, and New Zealand ports. The Katoa left Dunedin at 9.45 a.m. for Port Chalmers. She was to sail thence about 3 p.m. for Gisborne with tho Monowai in tow. Afterwards she will proceed to Auckland. The Karaona will sail to-night for Timaru, Wellington, New Plymouth, and Westport.

The Kurow is to leave Lyttelton at 1 11 a.m. to-morrow, and is due here on [ Friday morning. The Opihi was bar-bound at Westport last night, so was scheduled to sail this afternoon for Timaru and Port Chalmers. The Holmdale, which arrived to-day from Wanganui and Wellington, wifi sail to-night for Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, and Wanganui. The Kahika was to leave Napier today for Wellington and Dunedin; thence Oamaru, Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Napier, and Gisborne. Due on Saturday from Wellington direct, the Corinna should leave on Monday for way ports and New Plymouth.

The Karetu left Sydney at about midnight on Monday for Bluff, Dunedin, and Lyttelton, She is due here on November 23. The Waipahi will load at Auckland about Saturday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Bluff. THE FERRY SERVICE. The Maori, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.45 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails connected with the 12.20 p.m. express. STRATHLORNE FROM NAURU. The steamer Strathlorne, from Nauru Island via Auckland and Lyttelton, entered the Heads yesterday afternoon, and was berthed at Port Chalmers to discharge the remainder of her phosphate cargo. Arriving at Nauru island from Hongkong early in October, the Strathlorne was compelled to wait off the island for some . days owing to another vessel occupying the loading berth. Fine weather prevailed during the time the vessel was loading, and on October 15, with 6,700 tons of . phosphate, she sailed for Lyttelton. Two days out the steamer encountered strong south-east winds with rough seas, and these conditions continued off and on for almost a fortnight, the wind at times blowing with gale force. At the time the storm was at its worst the vessel’s speed for the twenty-fours hours averaged 2.4 knots. Although severely buffeted, the Strathlorne escaped damage. When it was discovered that the ship’s bunker coal was running short, it was decided to put into Auckland for a new supply. In ordinaiy circumstances the vessel, which was seventeen days out from the island, would have made the voyage in thirteen or fourteen days. .On arrival at Auckland she still bad a small quantity of coal in her bunkers. After coaling in the stream the Strathlorne, which is under time charter to Messrs Andrew Weir and Co., resumed- her voyage to Lyttelton.

CITY OF CANTON ARRIVED. The steamer City of Canton arrived at Dunedin this morning from New York via ports to continue discharging. The vessel, which is running under the auspices of the A. and A. Line, loaded all her . case oil and general cargo at New York, and sailed from that port on September 25. En route to Colon, which was reached on October 3, a'call’was made at Newport News for bunkers. Transit through the Panama Canal was obtained, and departure taken from Balboa on October 4. Coming across the Pacific the steamer experienced favorable weather almost to Auckland. Captain H. G. Jenkins is in command, his officers being: First, Mr R. Foort; second, Mr C. Topson; third, Mr A." Jones; wireless operator, Mr Henderson; chief engineer, Mr J. Stark; second, Mr Hill; third, M.r Reed; fourth, Mr W. Brown; fifth, Mr A. Jones; chief steward, Mr Stevens. The ship should sail on Friday. THE TAINUI’S VOYAGE. The Shaw, Savill, and Albion Company’s Tainui, from London and Southampton via Panama and Wellington, was due at Dunedin this afternoon. The Tainui left London at noon on October 7, and .arrived at Southampton at 2 a.m the following day. Passengers and mails taken aboard, and the voyage was resumed at 1.40 p.m. the same day. The vessel arrived at Colon at 2 a.m. on October 23, and the passengers were taken by special train to the city. After bunkering tho Tainui sailed at 6.30 a.m. tiie next day. The Panama Canal was negotiated without incident, and tho liner entered tho Pacific at 1.30 p.m. on October 24. Pitcairn Island was reached at 2 p.m. on November 4, and the vessel stayed there-for two hours. Excepting for a few showers of rain the weather during the voyage was fine. Last Saturday a school of whales was sighted. Captain H. C. Elford is in command of tho Tainui, and his officers are:—Chief, Mr H. Soddall; second, Mr F. Aftwood: third, Mr P. Horwood; fourth, Mr F. Gilroy; ship’s surgeon, Dr F. Rice; purser, Mr S. J. Liffeu; chief engineer, Mr G. Arthur; second, Mr H. Paskrns; third, AL’ W. Diffey; fourth, Mr M. Russell; fifth, Mr G. Rape; sixth, Mr J. Alathew; chief steward, Air J. Leslie.

The Tainui is commencing discharge here. Hence she sails for Lyttelton about November 22 to continue discharging. TREGENNA FROAI NEW YORK. The Tregenna is now expected to arrive at Auckland late on Friday' or early on Saturday. Tho ship left New York on October 10 for Auckland, Wellington, Lyttelton, Dunedin, and Port Pirie. She is due here on December 4 or 5. NIAGARA AT VANCOUVER. The Union Company advises that R.M.S. Niagara arrived at Vancouver at 7 a.m. on Friday from Sydney and i Auckland via Suva and Honolulu. She is to sail on the return trip to-day. TONGARIRO LEFT PANAMA. Cable advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the - Tongariro arrived at Panama on November 8 from London, and sailed again on the same date for Suva, Auckland, Port Chalmers, and Timaru The vessel is due at Auckland about December 3. THE CANADIAN SCOTTISH. H. L. Tapley and Co. advise that the Canadian Scottish was to leave Auckland yesterday for Wellington, Lyttelton, Timaru, and Dunedin to discharge; the remainder of her Montreal cargo and load products for New York, Boston, and Halifax. She is due here on November 25, and will sail on November 26 for Wellington, Napier, and Auckland to complete loading. j TREIJSStCK REPORTED. The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that' the Trelissick left Sydney (Cape Breton) on November 10 for Montreal to complete loading. Cable advice received by tie New Zealand Shipping Company states that the Remuera arrived at Southampton on November 13 from Wellington via Panama and Curacao, The vessel left Wellington on October 8.
