DUNEDIN FIRE BOARD

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Dunedin Fire Board was held yesterday afternoon. Present were Mr J. Wilson (chairman), Messrs J. J- Clark, A. Burn, W. A. Scott, W. B. Taverner, and F. T. Anderson. ‘ o Accounts amounting to £1,120 4s Od. were passed ter payment. MONTH’S ACTIVITIES. The Superintendent’s report stated that twenty-nine calls were attended by the brigade during the month or October, fifteen being to fires in or on property, six to chimney fires, four to bush fires, three were malicious false alarms, ami one an automatic false alarm. The extension to the fire alarm circuits which was authorised by the board is now -completed, twenty-five street call points and one automatic installation having been added to the system. These alarm boxes arp all in the hills districts, and are working in a proper manner. It now remains to paint the poles and affix the signal flags. The erection of the fencing at Ilqslyn station is now in hand, and will without doubt remove a somewhat ugly blot from the Highgate frontage. Two applications from firms wishing to have their automatic fire alarm installations connected with the brigade wires will come before the board for approval. Ninety-seven calls were answered by the motors of the St. John Ambulance, the distance covered being 1,072 miles.
