RIFLE SHOOTING

KAITAHGATA CLUB The first match of the Cooke Cup was fired by the Kailangata Rifle Club on Saturday, the conditions being ten shots and on optional sighter at 300yds and 500yds. Considering the day, the shooting was excellent, and the score of 94 by last year’s champion, J. Frazer, was a great effort. Riflemen Kitto, Kyle, and Baker, who each compiled 88, wore his nearest attendants. R. Kitto’s 48 and the veteran T. Frazer’s 47 at 500yds were splendid performances, as also was J. Frazer’s 48 at 300yds. A pleasing feature of the shoot was the few who got under '4O at each range, and two of these were shot in the rain. H. Baker, with 872, now leads_ in the championship off the rifle, and he is closely followed by W. Oliver 27i, J. Mackie 269, J. Smith 268, J. Frazer 265, and E. Kitto 259.
