THE CHARM OF GALILEE
The fish found in the. Lake of Galilee (says a writer in the 1 Sunday ah Home’) are of strange contrasts, including some peculiar to Europe, Asia, and even others which axe only lound elsewhere is Africa, suggesting that the Dead Sea was not always the terminus of the Jordan waters. Was the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah responsible for this change? Among the fish of the lake is one resembling a perch which has the peculiarity of carrying its young in its mouth—a sufficient answer to those who deny the truth of the incident of the tribute money on the ground that no fish could carry a piece of money in its mouth. To tread the shores of the lake and to sail upon its waters has a charm which Jerusalem, with ail its sites and shrines, cannot produce. It was hero that the Saviour commenced His ministry, and it was here He said good-bye. The water is blue and sweet because it gives out what it receives, unlike the Dead Sea, which receives, and. having no outlet, retains and becomes dead. What a parable for us.
