Manuka, s.s. (6.25 a.m.), 4,534 tons, Martin, from Melbourne via .Wellington and Lyttelton. The Wingatui will leave Lyttelton on Saturday for Timaru and Dunedin. She is duo here on Wednesday. The Corinna was to leave New Plymouth to-day for Wellington and Dunedin, and is duo on Tuesday to load out for Nelson and New Plymouth via ports. The Kurow was to leave Auckland to-day for Napier and Dunedin. She should arrive on Tuesday to load out for Auckland via ports. The Entnu, which is due on October 30 from Pacific Coast via northern ports, will sail hence for Timaru and New Plymouth. The Kathlamba was to sail at 4 p.m for Hobart direct. The S.S. and A. Line steamer Tamaroa is now due at Port Chalmers on Saturday morning from London and Southampton via Wellington and Lyttelton. The Ngakuta was to leave Westport to-day with a full cargo of coal for Timaru and Dunedin. Due about Wednesday, she should sail on Thursday for Timaru, Westport, and Greymouth. The Calm is expected to-morrow from Bluff. She is to sail to-morrow night for Timaru, Wellington, and Wanganui. Due on Sunday, the Breeze is listed to leave on Tuesday for Timaru, Lyttelton, Wellington, Picton, and Wanganui.

The Huddart, Parker steamer Uhmaroa, which arrived at Wellington on Tuesday from Sydney with passengers, mails, and cargo, is to sail at 11 a.m. to-merrow. on the return voyage. _ The Union, liner Maheno is tuned to leave Sydney to-morrow afternoon for Wellington with passengers, mails, and cargo. She is due at the northern port on Tuesday next. THE FERRY SERVICE. Tho Wahine, from Wellington, arrived at Lyttelton at 6.35 a.m. to-day, and passengers and mails connected with the 8.50 a.m. express., MANUKA FROM MELBOURNE, The Union Company’s intercolonial passenger steamer Manuka, which reached Wellington, on Monday from Melbourne, loft the Australian port at 11.30 a.m. on October 13, Exceptionally line weather prevailed, the voyage being completed in four days nineteen and .vhalf hours—unusually fast time. She sailed thence for .Lyttelton, which port she left at 2.55 p.m. yesterday for Dunedin, Bluff, and Melbourne, and arrived here this morning. The Manuka’s lists of saloon passengers for Dunedin were as follow; From Melbourne—Miss T. Johnson, Mr 0. P. and Mrs Mitchell, Mr and Mrs H. Y. P.emiington, Miss A. Swinton, Mr J. W. Thomas, Mr R. E. Thomas, Miss D. Wise, Mrs Wilson, and five steerage. From Wellington— Miss V. Dunn, Mr and Mrs I. J. Melville, Mrs Connor. From Lyttelton— Mr Grcenhalgh, and one steerage. H.M.S. VERONICA'S VOYAGE. After an absence of five months H.M.S. Veronica returned to Auckland from Western Eacific Islands on Sunday. Leaving Auckland on May 14, tho warship first visited Tonga, later proceeding to Suva, Ocean Island, and Gilbert and Ellice Groups. She then returned to Suva, and next visited tho Lau Group. Final departure was taken for Auckland on October 11. GERMAN BARQUE GUSTAV. Carrying 4,000 tons of guano, the German barque Gustav is expected to arrive at Auckland from Malden Island at any time now. The vessel called at Rarotonga in July to pick up workers for Malden Island, and although no definite advice has been received, it is thought that she landed the workers again some weeks after. The vessel, which is a four-masted steel barque of 2,525 tons, is registered at Hamburg, Germany. As she is not fitted with wireless it is not likely that she will ho reported before making port. She was built by Russell and Co., Port Glasgow, in 1892. After unloading 3,000 tons of her cargo at Auckland she is to proceed to New Plymouth to put out tho balance. FIVE WHALERS. Four American whalers—Pol 1.. Pol IL, Pol 111., Pol. IV.—sailed from Newport Nows on September 3.9 for Dunedin, where they are expected to arrive about the end of this month (says a Wellington report). The whaler Star VIIT. left Aden on September 26', bound for Hobart from Norway. THE PORT HOBART, The 0. and D. Lino’s motor ship Port. Hobart, which arrival on Sunday at Wellington, loaded at London and sailed from there on September 11. Tiie Port Hobart experienced good weather right throughout the voyage. The following passengers arrived by the vessel : —Mrs M. M. Scott, Miss E. King, Airs E. Chappie, Mr W. Johnson, Air H. Williams, Airs Al. Glass and two daughters. Miss U Cochrane, Mrs M. Tho Government steamer Tntanekai, from Wellington via East Coast lighthouses, reached Auckland on Friday. The vessel left Wellington on October 8. and called at Castlcpoint, Portland Island, Gable End, Horowera, East Cape, and Alatakawn. Rough weather on Thursday prevented her from working Ohina and Cuvier, hut she worked Cuvier yesterday. Tho vessel was to leave Auckland to attend the buoys and beacons in the Hauraki Gulf, and to visit the Ohina light beacon.. She is duo back about to-morrow, and is !to sail on October 26 for northern ; lighthouses. Captain J. Bollons retains ! command of the Tntanekai. BOUND FOR MELBOURNE. The ship will also have seventy-eight steerage passengers from both ports. CRANE SHIP RAPAKI. Some useful work was carried out by the Lyttelton Harbor Board’s eightyton crane on Friday, and again on Alonday. Tho crane was taken over from the firm of Sir William Arrol and Co. last week, and her services were awaited by the board to assist in the erection of the two three-ton electric cranes at present under course of erection. It was decided some time ago that, .as tho Rnpaki would shortly be available, it would be advisable to first erect the machinery platform and jibs of Clio two 1 cranes on»the wharf, and when the work was completed to lot the Rapaki hoist the cabin, containing the crane machinery and the jib into position. On Friday one of the cabins, weighing about twenty-seven tons, was hoisted on to one of the sunerstructures already erected. The work took about twenty minutes to complete. On Alonday the Rapaki picked up the other structure of tho second crane and transferred it from the east side ol No. 7 wharf to the west side, and in the afternoon returned to the east side and transferred the machinery cabin and jib apd placed them ia position, : ~~
