MOSGIEL BOROUGH COUNCIL

SPECIAL DEETING A special meeting of the Mosgiel Borough Council, held on Wednesday evening, was presided over by the mayor (Mr J. P. Walls).. Prior to proceeding with the ordinary business, the Mayor referred in feeling terms to the death of Cr Garrett’s mother, and on his motion a vote of sympathy was passed with Or Garrett aud the other members of the family. A letter was read from the district traffic manager, New Zealand Railways, refusing the council’s request that the 8.22 a.m. train from Mosgiel to Dunedin bo made to connect every day with the Central Otago train at Wingatui instead of throe days a week as at present. The council expressed dissatisfaction with the reply, and resolved to approach the Railway Department again on the matter, and to ask the help of the Expansion League to secure the return to the former timetable of connecting daily. An application for the erection of a second bowser 'pump was made Mr P. P. Bell for his garage on Gordon road.—The council did not favorably consider the erection of more bowsers. It was suggested that a charge might be made for them, and to enable inquiries to bo made in this respect, and also to allow’more time for consideration of the matter, the application was held over till next meeting. It was decided to take stops to combat the nuisance caused by cyclists riding on the borough footpaths. A heavy traffic license was granted to the Mosgiel Co-operative Grocery Stores for their motor van.

The Mosgiel Fire Brigade was granted permission to erect a staging for practice on the children’s playground in Gordon road, the council to bo free from any responsibility in the matter.

Tenders were further dealt with in connection with the leasing of the hall for a term for the purpose of showing moving pictures.—lt was resolved to call for fresh tenders, to bo returnable by next Wednesday, when a special meeting would bo hold to deal with them.

A drainage permit was granted to J. M'Auslaud, Forth street. J. Kcowen applied for permission to erect three wooden shelters for horses for a term of two years. Though this was the brick area, he desired to erect them in wood.. They would lie separated a good distance from any other building.—Permission was granted during the pleasure of the council. A building permit was granted to Messrs Melrose and White on behalf of Mrs Lewitt, Irvine street, and to Mr John Wcddcrspoon on behalf of Mr A. Davidson.
