ROYAL VISITORS

GLIMPSE OF niKEHABT [From Our Parliamkktabt Revortrs.] WELLINGTON, September 10, Sir J. G. Ward stated Jn the Hons* that he thought the Minister of Internal- Affairs should make a statement concerning the itinerary of the Duke and Duchess of York. He hoped all the people in the South Island would be able to see the Royal visitors. In some instances distinguished visitors who passed through were seen by only a small portion of the population. People generally would he glad to know how long the Duke and Duchess would be in New Zealand. The Hon. Mr Bollard: A month. Sir Joseph suggested that they should see the southern part of New Zealand and Milford Sound. ’ The Hon. O. J. Hawken: And the blackberry on the West Coast. (Laughter.) Sir Joseph: No; I wouldn’t suggest that. However, there ought to be no rushing. People would like to know what the itinerary would be, Mr Bollard: It is not finished yet, but it will be published soon. Mr Downie Stewart observed that he had seen a suggested itinerary about a month ago. The Royal visitors would be going to Milford Sound and Bluff, but he didn’t know about Stewart Island.

Mr Kyle: I would like to ask the Minister if he could spare them the painful necessity of going through Lyttelton tunnel.

Mr M‘Combs said it was a pity that they should go to Rotorua, as it gave a wrong impression. They should be taken to see our beauty spots. There was a great burst of laughter when the Chairman of Committees, Mr Hockly (who represents Rotorua), shouted “ Order, order.”
