NORTH-EAST HARBOR NOTES

[From Our. Correspondent.] The fancy paper costume dance held in the hall on Saturday night under the auspices of the Anglican Church Committee proved a most successful function. The hall was nicely decorated for the occasion, and this, together with the variety of costumes appropriate to the occasion, added to the enjoyment of the largo gathering. The music was supplied by the members of the Macandrew’s Bay Orchestra, and the supper was provided by the ladies of me committee. Mr Gibson, on behalf of the committee, took the opportunity of expressing its thanks for the liberal ptaronago bestowed, and at the same time mentioned that the next function would bo the last for the present season. Prizes were given for the best costumes, a task the judges decided as follows:—Ladies, Mrs Kellett; gents, Mr Kellett; juveniles—-Helen Niven first, Alice Hcllyer second. A meting of the committee of the Ratepayers’ Association was held on Wednesday evening, and was attended by Messrs Gibson (in tho chair), Bricked, Brookman (secretary), Kellett, Malcolm, and Rowlands. A letter was received from Miss Andrews with regard to the rent of the hall for her classes, and it was resolved that the matter be arranged in accordance with the secretary’s roportt hereon. An application was received from Mr Urquhart for tho use of the ball on Wednesday evenings for moving picture entertainments, and also for Saturday evenings when not engaged for local functions.—lt was resolved that the application be granted.—lt was resolved that all hall fees be paid by applicants on their receipt of the keys of the hall. Owing to the pictures being shown in tho hall it was resolved that tho meeting adjourn till next Monday week.

Urquhart’s pictures were again screened in the hall on Wednesday evening to a large and appreciative audience. An excellent programme was provided, comprising scenic views in Roumama, a side-splitting comedy, while the Paramount picture was entitled ‘ Paths to Paradise.’ During the evening a somewhat novel, though entertaining, item was given by Mr and Mrs Olsen, this being an instrumental duet on ‘‘'musical” saws, and several weli-known and popular tunes were played. Mr Sharpe again provided the music during the evening. Ihe annual meeting of the Boating Club will be held ,in the boat shed on Saturday week. The club is udoubtedly on a sound footing. Perhaps the most notable achievement, during the year has been the erection of the chib’s fine slip adjacent to the boat shed. The committee is deserving of the thanks of all members of the boating fraternitynob only of Macandrew’s Bav, but of the whole harborside —for the completion of this structure, for, when it is explained that it will carry boats larger than the Norana. its value to boat owners will be reaclily recognised. The club had the honor of providing the Otago crew which competed in the Cornwall Cup contest during the Exhibition regatta General regret has been expressed at the commodore’s decision not to seek re-election to office, for it is recognised that he has been the right mandat the helm. The club prizes won during the past season will he presented at the meeting.
