VANISHED IN THIN AIR
PEISOHER BAFFLES POLICE Wanted in practically every largo city in Europe, on charges of uttering false cheques, a man named George Spitz was recently arrested in London by British detectives, following information from the German police. His arrest was followed by removal to Germany in custody, and, travelling via Hamburg, the small party arrived at Frankfurt, whore Spitz was to face, a number of charges. Spitz, who was smartly dressed, had assured his escort that he would not see the inside of a German prison, and on his way lie was closely guarded. The party was met at Frankfurt by a prison van, and Spitz was locked in ono of tho small colls. The van travelled by well-known streets to the prison courtyard, and then the escort discovered tha t their prisoner had vanished. The ceil in which lie was placed was still locked, and so was the outer door of the van.
