CANADA’S DESTINY

PEACE OF NORTH AMERICA

SPEECH BY EX-PRIME MINISTER

Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright,

VANCOUVER, August 33. In a speech at Victoria the ex-Prime Minister, Mr Mackenzie King, declared that he stood “For the British Constitution through and through.” “ I am not in favor, and never have been in favor, and never will he in favor of annexation,” he said. He stated that ho made that statement because of “the deliberate attempts to mislead the people of the country.” Mr King declared that ho bolieved the country had no greater destiny than as one of tho free self-governing nations of the British Empire. “ That is the highest destiny wo can have. The greatest service to mankind will be rendered by having two nations on the continent of North America. Canada is in the happy position of being able to contribute’ to the peace of tho world both by her example and by her position as interpreter for the United States to Britain, and for Britain to the United States.” —Reuter.
