METROPOLITAN TROTS L9QAM LOU WINS AGAIN PETERWAH'S GREAT BURST OF SPEED [By Sx. Claiil] CHRISTCHURCH, August 13. The concluding day of the trotting at Addington was held in bright sunshine and before a good attendance. The course was heavy in the morning, hut the management engaged half a dozen big motor cars, which were driven round it for nearly an hour prior to the first race, and during the .intervals between, the, first three races. The racing was again good, and there were some highly-interesting finishes. Logan Lou won the National Cup very easily. ' Chief interest was centred on the Addington Handicap, a drain 40sec class, for unhopplcd trotters, and no bettor field of fourteen trotters has ever been started in the dominion. The Gisborne owned and trained Poterwah, after his good showing on 'Wednesday,- was at once established a good favorite, and his winning performance to-day was one of the best races seen on the course. He skipped at the stand, and broke hadly with five furlongs to go, and besides having none too good a run in the race over the .last four furlongs he put in a marvellous run and turned info the straight five or six lengths behind Money Spider, who had beaten all the others. : With a 'still more wonderful burst of speed down the straight he just reached Money Spider to heat Mm by a short neck. . When tjie Southland-owned Bell Harold returned to the enclosure after •winning the Farewell Handicap, it ■was subjected to a very hostile reception, both from the inside and' outside patrons, but no action was taken. To the average onlooker there was nothing wrong with his performances during the meeting. Considering that the totalisator receipts on the opening day showed a decrease of about £17,000 the club did well to drop only £10,975 on the meeting. in the Midwinter contest, 1m and sf, for unhoppled trotters, all started, and Guy Parrish was again selected as favorite, carrying a little more than Audohell, this pair being much better hacked than Young Blakd (Wildwood Jun.—Daphne Dillon), Burnie, and Happy Rosa. Lady Fan showed the way to Queen Ida, Koraki, Mount Royal, Bundaherg, and Kola Boy. The latter ran into second place before a lap had been turned, and half a mile from home joined Lady Fan in the lead. In the latter part of the first circuit Engagement and Young Blake moved up, and approaching the homo turn ran to the front, Kola Boy hanging on to them. Young Blake, keeping his feet better than usual, stayed oh well and heat Engagement by a head, with Kola Boy six lengths away third, followed by Bundaherg and Koraki. Times: omin 59sec, _ Smin 69 l-Ssec, 4min 2 l-6sec. Totalisator, £3,300, All started in the Lightning Handicap, Im, in which Ivy Audubon was made a better favorite than King Dillon, with Countryman, Dreamalion, Darknite, and Bruce (Logan Pointer —-Trixie jMae, ridden by M. Holmes) the next, in order. King Dillon had Homer, Whetu, Ivy Audubon, and Dal.nahine his nearest attendants as they raced to the stand the first time, and turning but of the straight King Dillon led Ivy Audubon and Bruce. Going to the far 'turn the order of the leading division was the same, with Darknite and Tien Ohau next. King Dillon stopped in the straight, and Bruce, finishing well, beat Darknite to the post by two lengths, with Ivy Audohon a length further hack thud; Ben Ohau and Dreamalion next. Times: 2min 15|sec, 2min 15 4-ssec, 2min 17 l-ssec. Totalisator, £5,084. Logan Lou (Logan Pointer—Galindo Lou, driven by D. Withers) was made a warm favorite in the National Cup, 2m, the bracketed pair, Logan Chief (who had been purchased overnight by Mr J. Kinnerley) and Roicole, Event (who ran in. Mr W. Quirk’s interest), and Man o’ War being the best backed of the others. Roicole stopped badly at the start, and Event led out from Logan Lou and Prince Pointer. Event led the favorite until half a mile from home, where the latter took charge from Event, Ahuriri, Man o’ War, and Prince Pointer. At the far turn Logan Lou drew out several lengths to the good, and went on to wm easily, by three lengths from Man o’ War, who covered a lot of extra ground throughout the race. Ahuriri was over two lengths away third, followed by Event and Waitaki Girl. Times; 4min 40 1-osec, 4min 39 3-ssec, 4min 40 l-sseo. Totalisator, £7,5381. Peterwah was withdrawn from the Federal Handicap, 1m and sf, for un~ happled trotters, and Money Spider (Lorene Todd—Mantle, driven by J, Bryce). and Master Audo were the only two hacked. Master Audo led Money Spider for eleven furlongs; then the favorite challenged, and easily beat him hy four lengths. Bonny .Spec was two lengths away third, the next a long way hack and beaded by First Fashion, who broke soon after the start. Times: drain 49 4-ssec, drain 61 4-Ssec, Smin 50 3-ssec. Totalisator, £5.953}. St. Maura was made a considerably better favorite than Wharepiana in the Heathcote Handicap, 2m, this, pair being much better backed than Golden Devon (Great Audubon—Lady Devon), Prince Lyons, Oakhampton, and Countryman, who were the best hacked of the others. Dalnahine and Peter Bingen were scratched, and Bing Boy again stood on the mark. Stormy,Wharepiana, Golden Devon, and Harold Burwood were the early loaders, and there was little change in this quartet until half a mile from home, where Harold Burwood was just in front of Golden Devon, Stormy, and Talent, who was travelling very fast just behind the first three. Golden Devon was in charge at the distance post, and beat the fast-finishing Talent home by just over a length," Stormy two lengths further back third, in front of Harold Burwood and Countryman. Times: 4min 37 4-ssec, 4min 35sec, 4min 40 2-ssec. Totalisator, £6,173. . Only First Fashion was withdrawn from the Addington Handicap, 2m, for nnhoppled trotters, for which the American-bred Peterwah (Etawah— Janova, driven by his owner, R. S. Fisken) was made a warm favorite. ’Money Spider (penalised 24yds) was the second selection, and Mangoutu, Lazarus, Proud Ata, and Clonmel were All well backed. Peter. M'Kinney showed the way for two furlongs, when Master Audo took charge, leading past the stand from Peter M'Kinney, with the others a long way back. Master Aiiiio then opened up a good gap, but going along the back Peter M'Kinney was within four lengths of him, while Money Spider was at the head of the others. Starting on the last.lap, Money Spider had joined Master Audo in the lead, Peter M'Kinney being next, with Peterwah closing up fast. Peterwah broke at the entrance to the back stretch, losing a lot of ground, and half a mile from home Money Spider and Master Audo were eight lengths in front of the next bunch. Peterwah put in a great run, along .the back, and at the home turn was in .second place, six lengths behind Money Spider. Finishing with a great burst of specs’, Peterwah got up to heat Money Spider on the post by, a neck. Red Oak was mx lengths away, with Clonmel four

lengths further back. Times: 4miu .38 2-ssec, 4min 39 3-sscc, 4miu 41scc. Totalisator, £7,651}. The big field of twenty-five started in. the Islington ■ Handicap, 2m, and Yenot was made a pronounced favorite, with Tom Thumb also heavily backed. Then followed the bracketed pair, Holly Boy (Hal Boy—Holly Maid, driven hy Tomkinson) and Billy Whizz, the coupled Moor Chimes and Lenamhor, and Granite City, in tho order of favoritism.’ Lord Bingen turned round at the _sfart, bringing down Rosie Nut and interfering with most of the back markers. Billy Whizz, Macaranda, and Wairua were tho early leaders, and, with six furlongs to go, Pearl Coronado was just in front of Unde Bert, Golden Sun, and William the Great. At the far turn, -nearlv three furlongs from home, William the Gnfet took charge, and led Moor Chimes. Granite City, Uncle Bert, and Holly Boy info the straight. Holly Boy finished fast over the last bit, and beat Undo Bert homo by two lengths, .with Binscarth a length off third, followed by Granite City, and Macaranda. Times: 4min 40sec. 4min 41 2-osec, 4min 42 l-ssoc, Totalisator, £6,732.

St. Maura, Oakhampton, Prince Pointer, and Logan Lou -were, the scratchings for the Farewell Handicap, Um, for which Peter Bingen wasmada a slightly better favorite than Brenlloc, Glenelg, and Bell Harold_ (Harold Rothschild—Jon nv Bell, driven hy Tomkinson), with the bracketed pair (Bonny Logan and Talaro) next in order. Brcntloc led out from Cardinal Logan, Talaro, and Bell Harold, who began very smartly. At the far turn Bell Harold took charge, and led Cardinal Logan and Brentloc into the straight. In tho fun to the post Bell Harold went on to win by two lengths from Cardinal Logan, with Loganwood nearly a length away-third. Talaro fell a few yards from the post. Glenelg, who covered a lot of unnecessary ground throughout the race, and Becky Logan were next. Times: 2min 45 2-sscc, 2min 48 4-ssec, 2min 46sec. Totalisator, £8,210|. The investments for-the day. were £50,643, and £129,625 for the meeting..
