PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY

The first fortnightly meeting of last month was held at tho society’s club rooms. A demonstration by the president (Mr S. H. Rawson) on ‘ Exposure and Development of Films and Plates,’ together with an interesting lecture on this subject, was much appreciated. Before commencing the lecture tho result of the New Zealand intcrclub competition was announced, tho news being very gratifying to members, as the premier position was gained by Dunedin. It is a few years since this competition was won by the Dunedin Society. Proceeding with his lecture, Mr Rawson pointed out tho great importance attached to correct exposure. Modifying tho development of a plate or film did not atono or correct bad exposure. Under-exposure was more fatal_ than over-exposure. At tho conclusion of tho lecture Mr Rawson was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. At the second meeting of the month the annual club auction took place. The club’s auctioneer, Mr T. A. Dawson, was successful in disposing of all material for sale at prices suitable to both buyer and seller. After the auction a lantern lecture was given by Mr W. B. Seymour entitled ‘ May in tho Pyrenees,’ the lantern being worked by Mr T. A. Dawson. This interesting series of views, tho product of tho Barnet Plato Company, England, was on loan from Messrs li. and G. K. Neill. The series was a. pictorial record of a fortnight’s holiday spent in the valleys of the Pyrenees, which is considered to bo one of the most picturesque portions of France. Supper terminated an interesting evening.
