"HANDED TO SATAN"
■ A CIEEGYMAIi’S FATE >fAITH, PASSION, SACRIFICE.” ■ CY ' ... SYDNEY, July 29. Walter Arthur Scobie Frost Wood, a mn with a long, thick beard, proceeded against, the Rev. T. E. Ruth at the Water Police Court to-day for alleged slander. His complaint was that Mr Ruth had ilijed the following words;—“l don’t ‘think von are morally bad, but you inust be mentally deficient, or you would cease writing objectionable letters .and acting the way you do.” The Mr Ruth, was present. Ho was represented by Mr Bathgate. _ . In answer lo a question. Wood said be knew the late Rev. N. J. Cox, Roy. W. T. Kench, and Mr Ruth were in conspiracy against him, and he had called oh'them to repent. A letter-card- written by Wood to Mr Bath was produced. Part of it in substance read: “ The Creator has added unto you plagues in that grand old Book, and calls on you to repent, confess and die. I Jiand you, with the Rev. Kench, over to Satan for the destruction of your body.” Wood said he had written a letter on which there was a piece of red tape Med in a bow. Mr Bathgate asked him if it was a Jazz garter. Wood, denied-that it was. He said ft represented faith, passion, and sacjifico. The magistrate, Mr Gates, did not Call on the defence to give evidence, »nd dismissed the complaint,
